Toddler Curriculum For Ages 18 Months – 2.5 Years

Toddler Themed Lesson Plans

Toddler Themed Lesson Plans

Our toddler curriculum program is made for children between the ages of 18 months and 2.5 years old.

Our curriculum includes four weeks of lesson plans for each month purchased. Our aim is to introduce the children to the alphabet, numbers, colors and shapes along with learning about each weeks weekly theme. Our toddler themes include lots of toddler friendly lesson plans such as learning about frogs and bugs in June, learning about birds and dinosaurs in August, and learning about snow and snowmen in December. What kid doesn't doesn't love learning about frogs, bugs, dinosaurs and snowmen!

Each month the children are shown four letters and one number, the same letters will be shown twice throughout the year. At this young age most toddlers are not going to learn all the names of the letters they see but they will learn a few names of the letters throughout the year and they will have fun playing games that have them match up the letters, letter crafts and singing songs to learn some of their alphabet and when they move into the preschool group where they have already started learning about letters, numbers, shapes and colors they will have an easier time seeing them all again... the 2nd time around. Think of it as learning a foreign language, the more you hear it and see it, the quicker you learn it.

Below are some of the printable pages that you may receive depending on which month you purchase. Each month offers different types of hands on activities plus printable games, printable stories and printable pages, etc.

Free Cute Letters To Download & Print Out

Click Here To View & Download All 26 Letters

Above you can view three of the 26 letters that you can download and print out for the children in your daycare. These alphabet letters are free for a {Limited time}. Some children love coloring pages others do not. If you have children in your daycare that love to color then you may want to click the link above to go over to the ABC coloring page to download these for free to share with the children in your daycare.

Coloring pages are a fine motor activity. It teaches children to color inside the lines. Younger children do not usually color inside the lines they usually just scribble all over the page, don’t worry if they are only scribbling on the page, as they mature they will learn to color inside the lines, encourage each child to be creative and let them color the page however they want, inside the lines...outside the lines, it doesn’t really matter as long as they are having fun.

Encourage the children to sit together or near each other as they are coloring, ask the children if they know which letter they are coloring and what color they are using. Make it a relaxing social time for the children, put on some relaxing music {turn it down low}, above all...just have fun!

For those children that do not like coloring pages, offer them some plain paper, markers or crayons and let them use their imagination. The key point is to try and be flexible, not every child is going to like the same things. Try to think how you can offer them something similar but a bit different to make it more enjoyable for them.

The above pictures are from our September toddler curriculum. During the month of September the children will be learning the letters A...B...C...D Above is a pre reading activity where the children will color the letter B coloring page. The children can put stickers onto the circles onto the page which is also a fine motor activity, younger toddlers may not be able to put the circle stickers onto the circles on the page but they can still have fun sticking the circle stickers onto the page.

In our toddler curriculum children will be using glue, crayons, play dough and paint which are great sensory and fine motor activites which are included in our lesson plans. Sometimes the children will be using rice in a sandbox or planting fake flowers outside or sticking toilet paper rolls into holes in a box. We try to recycle items such as milk cartons, toilet paper tubes, paper towel rolls, plastic jar covers and egg cartons. Once these items become too worn out to use you can place them into your recycle bin.

Animal Letter Match Up Game - Printable Page

Animal Letter Match Up

Animal Letter Match Up

View the letter match up game above.

This printable game is a fun activity that will help to teach the toddlers their letters that they will be learning in September. In September they will be shown the letters A, B, C and D. Toddlers love matching the alphabet letter game pieces to the game board.

You may want to attach a small piece of velcro to the cards so they will stick to the game board and then watch the fun begin.

Younger toddlers will just have attaching the game cards to the game boards and pulling them on and off the velcro, while older toddlers will actually learn to match up the animal letter cards to the correct locations on the game board. They can also match up the animals instead of matching up the letters.

Bat Color Match Up for toddlers

Match The Bats By Color

Super fun toddler activity! They will have fun matching up the pompoms to the bats by color. Wow, what a fun learning activity to help teach toddlers their colors.

Teacher will place all the pom–pom into a small cloth bag and have the children take turns picking one pom–pom from the bag and see if they can tell you which color they are holding, then have them match the pom–pom to the bat by color, have them place the pom–pom into the bowl that is the same color as the pom–pom they are holding.

This fun color activity is from our hibernation lesson plans which can be found in our January toddler curriculum.

What’s The Weather Today? Weather Song

Weather Chart

Circle Time – Weather Cards

The Weather Song: To help teach the toddlers the weather we sing this song each morning with the children.

Oh, Can You Tell Me The Weather Outside?
Tune to "Have You Ever Seen a Lassie?"

This is a fun song to sing with the toddlers each morning to help to teach them the weather outside.

Oh, can you tell me the weather, the weather, the weather? {Point to the weather cards}
Oh, can you tell me the weather, the weather outside? {Point out the window}
Is is sunny? {Hold up a sun picture}.
Or cloudy? {Hold up rain picture}.
Is it raining?{Hold up snow picture}
Or snowing? {Hold up snow picture}
Is it windy? {Hold up cloudy picture}.
Or stormy? {Hold up thunder & lightning picture}
Oh, can you tell me the weather, the weather outside? {Point towards the window})

It’s sunny and hold up that picture. Replace the word sunny with the actual weather that is outside and show the weather picture too.

Then bring out a puppet and have the puppet pretend to talk to children by saying something like this: What’s the weather outside today? Can you go to the window with me and look out to see?

Get all excited and have the puppet say something like:

Come on everyone, hurry up, let’s go, we need to check out the weather, come on, I need your help, let’s go check out the weather, oh I can’t wait to see the weather outside, have the puppet sound all happy and excited to be able to look out the window to see the weather, wave to any child that hasnt joined you to come and see what we see. {never force a child to join by do encourage them by happy and excited voices}

Take the children to the window to look outside, ask the children something like:

is it snowing outside, have the puppet hold up the snow picture, then ask the children to look outside to see if they see anything white floating in the air, ask the children something like this: Is it snowing out and have the puppet hold up the snow picture, have the puppet shake his head and say no, it’s not snowing out. hmmm, what is the weather today?

Then ask the children something like this: is it windy outside, ask them if they see things blowing around in the breeze, have the puppet hold up the windy picture, have the puppet shake his head and say no, it’s not windy out. hmmm, what is the weather today?

Continue asking the children by having the puppet hold up the pictures of each type of weather.

If it’s sunny outside, ask them the correct weather last, this way you can ask them is it snowing, raining, cloudy, windy or stormy to teach them these words and then ask them the correct type of weather for the day last.

Ask the children something like: Is it sunny outside today? Have the puppet hold up the sun picture and then hold him towards the window and have the puppet say, I dont see rain, I dont see snow, I don’t see the wind, yes I think it’s sunny, YES it’s sunny, woohoo it’s sunny outside, can you say sunny, clap your hands if you like the sun!

Then hold up the puppet and have it look like he is singing a song about the weather that is outside right now.

If It’s Sunny Outside Song
Tune to If Your Happy & You Know It

If it’s sunny outside clap your hands, if its sunny outside clap your hands
if its sunny outside let’s do a happy dance {pretend dance}
if its sunny outside clap your hands, clap clap

Replace sunny with the actual weather such as rainy, stormy, windy, cloudy or snowy.

What’s A Calendar? Fun With Numbers

Toddler Calendar For Circle Time

Toddlers Can Play With The Numbers!

Magnetic Calendar & Stick On The Numbers!

Toddlers have no idea what a calendar is but just to get them used to seeing a calendar and that numbers go onto a calendar we made a magnetic calendar for the children to put magnetic numbers onto it.

To make the calendar you will need a dry erase board that is magnetic too. With a dry erase marker and a yard stick draw out your calendar, when you are happy with your design, either use colored tape to go over the lines you just made or use a permanent marker and the yard stick again and draw back over the dry erase lines with a permanent markers. You may like the tape better, if you put the tape in the wrong spot you can remove it and try again.

Next with a permanent marker write the numbers onto the calendar, as these will not really be used except for the children matching up the numbers to the boxes or younger toddlers just putting the numbers into any of the boxes, it gives the toddlers a sense that numbers go onto the calendar.

How To Use The Magnetic Calendar You may want to have the dry erase calendar screwed into the wall so the children can play with it throughout the day, by putting the magnetic numbers into the empty boxes on the calendar, just make sure you check the numbers with a choke tube before giving to the toddlers.

What Day Is It Song

Tune to (Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush(

Do you know what day it is, what day it is, what day it is?
Do you know what day it is, today is Monday.

I know what day it is, what day it is, what day it is.
I know what day it is, today is Monday!

Please note: Change Monday to whatever day it actually is when you sing the song above.

Bring Out Your Puppet

Bring out a cute puppet to sing the song above with you, everytime you go to sing Monday, have the puppet yell out Monday in a funny voice. This should capture the childrens attention and they should focus in on the word Monday as they hear the puppet keep saying it, change Monday to whatever day it actually is.

Sing the song above with your puppet while the children are playing with the numbers and putting them onto the magnetic calendars and then sing some of their favorite songs while they are having fun with the calendars and numbers.

Singing Songs And Reciting Rhymes

Each week we teach the children a few new songs or rhymes for that week’s theme. Children like repetition so don’t be afraid to sing any song the children really like on a daily basis, but try to add a few new ones each week.

It won’t be long before the children will be following along to the hand movements to some of the songs and nursery rhymes they hear often and before you know it they will start to sing right along with you! Be sure to include some of the children’s favorites each week. Some of our children’s favorites are listed below.

Some Of Our Toddler’s Favorite Songs

The Wheels On The Bus
If your Happy And You Know It
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
ABC Song
Old McDonald Had A Farm

Some Of Our Toddler’s Favorite Rhymes

The Itsy Bitsy Spider
One Two Buckle My Shoe
Humpty Dumpty Sat On A Wall
Ring A Round The Rosy
Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
Plus Many Other!

When toddlers sing songs don't expect them to actually sit still for this, as most toddlers are on the go. But if you bring out a hand puppet but most toddlers are going to come over to listen for a few minutes as they watch the puppet, singing songs to the toddlers is a great way to teach them colors, shapes, numbers and letters!

To capture your toddlers attention bring out a hand puppet and and sing the songs and a lot of toddlers cant talk yet or are not going to sing, you may feel like your singing to yourself, but they are listening, please make sure you sing a few songs each day, all of a sudden, one day, when they are older, you will hear them singing these songs and then you will be glad you continued singing, because even if they dont look like they are listening, they are!

Art Time: Our toddler curriculum program provides a daily art project (craft) for the children to do each day that goes along with that week’s theme.

After singing songs and hearing a story we have the toddlers come to the table and sit down to get ready for art time. You can refer to the toddler daily lesson plans to see which craft you will be doing that day, and if you need to print anything out for that day’s craft. If we are going to use glue I place the glue into tiny plastic cups. I have found that the sample size of play dough cans work great for this. I only put a small amount in each child’s cup; just enough for that days project. I then proceed to pass out child sized paint brushes for the young children to use, just make sure the paint brushes are large sized and that they have rounded ends.

When the children paint you may want to make sure each child has some type of paint shirt on. If you do not have enough paint shirts, you can always use an old sweat shirt and cut off the arms, or use old shirts that are a bit large, you can use anything that will work.

We keep some clean rags handy. We use our old washcloths for paint rags. You may find it works best to keep a wet rag handy for spills or for a child who is done before the others. Or you may want to have a dishpan with a small amount of water in it for the children who finish early can rinse off until they can get into the bathroom to wash up with soap and warm water.

Testimonials:

I have been using this curriculum for the past five years. It is truly fabulous! My children are learning so much and are having so much fun. It is so great to have stories and rhymes incorporated with each day's lesson. I love the weekly Thematic units and so do my Parents. The Theme poster's are great to put on your Parent Bulletin Board.

You do have to print out the pintables but the price is so reasonable that it is worth it. Other programs that I have looked into that send you everything already printed out are very expensive. It is worth taking a few minutes to print out what you need for your daily lesson, plus you can use these lessons over and over again, year to year.

I have just started using the infant curriculum and I love it and so do my infants and parents. I cannot imagine running my program without this wonderful curriculum. I hope you guys are around for a long time to come.

Susan – Dallas, Texas

Another Testimonial:
