Day 5
Circle Time:
If Your Happy & You Know It Clap Your Hands
Gather the children together and sing a group song and encourage them to act out the hand movements.
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap hands)
Other verses:
Act out the actions above or create your own actions to do with the song. Have the children do the motions with you. Toddlers will quickly learn to join in and repeat the movements as they see teacher doing them. You may need to repeat the song a few days in a row for some of the children to participate and to learn the movements.
Art Time:
Teacher will take turns tracing each childs hands onto card stock paper or paper plates, or onto something sturdy. Teacher will need to cut out the hands and then place the hands onto newspaper. Have the children paint the hands. They can paint the hands the same colors or give them one hand at a time and a different color of paint each time. Then after they are done painting the pictures may stick to the newspaper, carefully peel them off the newspaper and set aside to dry. I usually set them under the ceiling fan or hang them outside on the clothesline so they will dry quickly. After they dry have the children glue them onto a piece of colored construction or card stock paper. Write Helping Hands on the top of the picture and the child’s name and age underneath. You may want to hang these around the classroom for a few days and then send home when you take them down.
Learning Time:
Print out two sets of my puzzle cards per child. One card will be the game board. The other set you will cut out each item and cover with clear contact paper to make them sturdy. Have the children match each picture to the matching pictures on the game board.
Please Note. You will need to attach Velcro onto the backs of each picture and onto the front of each picture on the game board. Make sure the Velcro is in the same spot on each piece so they will stick together.
Special Activity:
You can use your own crayons or you can make some crayons with your old broken pieces.
What you need:
•     Crayon Pieces
This is a great way to make use of those old broken crayons. Just remove the paper from the old broken crayons. Then place some muffin cup liners into a muffin pan. Just place some crayon pieces in each cup, only fill about a quarter. Don't worry if all the crayons are different colors you can mix the colors together.
Now bake at 200-225 degrees for about 5 min. or until crayons look like they are melted. Simply remove and let cool. After they cool you can remove the paper liners and you will have "new" big round crayons.
Please Note: If you do not put enough crayon pieces into the muffin cups they will be brittle and break easily and if you use too many they may not melt correctly. You may need to experiment a few times to find out what works best for you, before you get the crayons to come out correctly.
Now this is a great time to use the crayons you just made, and have the children gather together for a group activity. Teacher will need to tape some paper down on the table. Most toddlers can not hold the paper and color too, if you have large paint paper, use this, and cover the entire table, let the children scribble together all over the paper.
